The United Kingdom Clinical Infection Research group (UKCIRG) was founded in 2008 to address the need for high quality clinical research directed at the diagnosis and treatment of infections in the UK.
The group has four major objectives:
- To unite the execution of large, pragmatic randomised controlled trials with classical ‘bedside’ clinical research.
- To use controlled trials, and their carefully characterised subjects, as a platform for answering questions of diagnosis, prognosis, drug pharmacokinetics/dynamics, and disease pathogenesis.
- To provide a framework for training enthusiastic clinical researchers of the future.
- To develop robust national and international collaborations between people interested in clinical infection research.
